Soccer-AEK win opens up Greek championship race
ATHENS, March 30 (Reuters) - AEK Athens opened up the Greek title race on Sunday by thrashing championship leaders Olympiakos Piraeus 4-0 at the Olympic Stadium.
Panathinaikos came from a goal down to beat Panionios 2-1 and move to within one point of Olympiakos who still top the table with 61 points.
AEK, who are third one point further back on 59, ripped into a surprisingly lacklustre Olympiakos from the start.
Ismael Blanco headed in at the far post to put them 1-0 up after 10 minutes and two minutes later Edinho latched on to a through ball from former Olympiakos midfielder Rivaldo to slide the ball under goalkeeper Andonis Nikopolidis.
Nikos Liberopoulos produced a stunning strike from outside the penalty area which flew into the top right-hand corner to put AEK 3-0 up in just over half an hour.
The pace eased but another former Olympiakos player, Pantelis Kafes, also made his old team mates suffer by adding a fourth on the hour.
